Police do not carry guns in South Korea. Prudence Seo, 19, an exchange student from South Korea, says guns are completely banned. For a police officer to own a gun, he or she has to fill out many forms and then be tested and approved for the weapon, otherwise, Seo says, the police carry tear gas.
Seo says it was almost scary coming from South Korea, where there are no guns, to America, where everyone has guns in their basements.
Seo has been in America for almost three years, and is a current student at Kalamazoo Christian High School. “I thought being in a bigger town than Three Rivers or Marcellus would be safer, but no,” Seo says concerning the Kalamazoo shooting on Feb. 20. The shooting made the national news in South Korea.
