The following 44-minute news magazine was created by Journalism students teaming with Film, Video & Media Studies students to explore the climate of campus diversity and inclusion at WMU in the spring of 2014.

The magazine is made up of separate news documentary videos of 5- to 8- minutes long that each focus on a particular aspect of the diversity dialogue at WMU: defining diversity, the stories of people with disabilities, seeking equal rights, students’ interactions in the community and action steps toward true multiculturalism on campus. Each of those videos can be viewed below.

"Defining Diversity" explores the meaning behind the word diversity, a subjective word whose definitions depend on lived experience. In this short video, students on one Midwest campus share their definitions and opinions about what diversity means to them. Dr. Susan Freeman, a gender scholar, Dr. Timothy Ready, an expert in health and community development, and university spokesperson Cheryl Roland, all of Western Michigan University, provide perspective and context. Credits/Bio: As director/producer, Abigayle Williams led a group of five Western Michigan University students who created "Defining Diversity: Exploring the meaning behind a subjective word" in the spring of 2014. Working alongside Williams was Nathan Nkhoma (cinematographer), Mario Bautista (editor), Stanley Sulewski (narrator) and Bianca Anderson (scriptwriter).

This short documentary captures the voices of three people living with disabilities and negotiating the difficult terrain -- both literally and figuratively -- of life on a Midwest college campus. Credits/Bio: Director/producer Christina Cantero led a group of four Western Michigan University students who collectively brought "Diversity" to life over the span of six weeks. Team members were James Mitchell (cinematographer), River Tatem (editor), John Campbell (narrator) and Katy May (scriptwriter).
